Takakanonuma Greenland, Japan
An amusement park in Japan that once offered visitors great fun and amazing views. It was closed down after only two years of operation because of accidents with the rides that caused the death of a number of people. It was reopened after a decade, only to close down in the 1990s, this time for good.
According to Wikipedia, there are only 10 people living in Centralia Pennsylvania as of 2010. The residents left their homes here after a coal fire started in the 1960s and kept on burning for more than two decades. All the houses here have been condemned, except for the remaining few.
The ghost town once had more than 2,000 people living in it. But these people left because of constant landslides and earthquakes and because of infertile soil. Today, Craco is a deserted town that is fast decaying and is part of the World Monuments Fund watch list.
The city of Pripyat is home to many employees of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, when disaster struck in 1986. The city was abandoned because of fears of radiation and was looted in the 1990s. It is still not safe to live here, so the city remains abandoned until now.
